WordPress is one of the best blogging platforms available. Most of the starters start their blogging career with BlogSpot and then move obviously to WordPress. Because of its flexibility, ease of use and most important thing Plugins and Theme Customization.
According to recent survey conducted by WordPress Co-Founder Matt Mullenweg, out of 100 active websites / blogs 22 are using WordPress! More than 14% of the Web is using WordPress.
Installing WordPress is a easy job because it can be installed in less than 5 minutes. But creating a blog isn’t just enough. You need to maintain an active user base. We will be writing more about blogging tips in our future posts. So what are the things you should do after creating a WordPress blog?
#0. After logging into your Dashboard you can see Settings in the left pane. Click on it.
#1. Under settings Click on General Settings. Fill all the required details like Site title, Site URL, Admin Email Address.
– Membership: If you put a tick mark to “Anyone can register”, Anyone will be able to register on your blog and submit posts to you. But Make sure to set User Default Role to: Contributor.
– Time Zone: Select your time zone, For India its: UTC +5:30.
– Date Format: Your desired date format. Default is Month Name Date, Year.
All other options can be ignored.
#2. Under Writing options you can update default categories, posting via email and ping services etc.,
#3. Under Reading settings, you can change options of your Home Page like to display your desired front page and post page.
#4. Under Discussion settings, you can change options of who can comment, comment moderation, nested comments, email notifications for comment moderation and disabling comments for posts more than specific time etc.,
#5. Under Media settings, you can change the settings like where the images uploaded by you should be saved.
Tip: Remove tick to Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders. To save some server storage space and to make your image URL’s look clean. You can also use Sub Domain to host your Images. Click here to know how to host images on a sub domain.
#6. Under Privacy settings, You can allow or disallow Search bots to index your blog.
#7. Under Permalink Structure settings, you can change Permalink of your posts.
